Under the Netflix deal, each Warner Bros Discovery shareholder will receive $23.25 in cash and about $4.50 in Netflix stock per share, valuing Warner at $27.75 a share, or about $72bn in equity and $82.7bn with debt. Netflix has offered Warner Bros Discovery a $5.8bn breakup fee, while Warner Bros Discovery would pay Netflix $2.8bn if the deal collapses. Scrutiny from WashingtonEven before the bids were in, some members of Congress said a Netflix–Warner Bros Discovery deal could harm consumers and Hollywood. Warner Bros Discovery owns news network CNN, and there were concerns that, should Paramount own it, it could bring in leadership that is aligned with Trump and the Republican Party, as have been the concerns about CBS. Brown | AFP | Getty ImagesMovie theater operators woke up Friday to the possibility of a new world order. "The proposed acquisition of Warner Bros. by Netflix poses an unprecedented threat to the global exhibition business," CEO Michael O'Leary said in a statement. "Netflix's stated business model does not support theatrical exhibition. "So, we've already been talking to people at the federal level, at the state level and internationally because this is a significant, significant threat, we believe, to the long-term viability of the theatrical exhibition." And Cinema United isn't the only group worried about the future of the industry if the Netflix deal is approved.

Tokenized stocks are gaining ground as a way for ordinary people to access investment opportunities long reserved for high net-worth individuals and other accredited investors. The products have become popular with some as means of investing in private companies at early stages, potentially leading to outsized returns. But tokenized stocks are less regulated, and they can pose more legal and financial risks to inexperienced traders, some experts say. Coinbase also unveiled this year its own plans to offer tokenized stocks as part of its "everything-exchange" vision. That makes it more difficult for retail investors to ascertain whether they're making a judicious investment.

The figures suggest that it will lift 300,000 children out of relative poverty by 2027, rising to 450,000 by 2031. Extension of eligibility for free school meals This was announced some time ago but is still a key measure to reduce child poverty. Estimates in the child poverty strategy suggest it will help lift 100,000 children out of poverty by 2028. There will also be a new duty for councils to inform schools, GPs and health visitors when a child is put in temporary accommodation with their family. However, alongside the estimates of children in relative poverty there will also be a new measure of “deep material poverty”.

People hold a sign as they participate in a protest outside the U.S. Supreme Court over President Donald Trump's move to end birthright citizenship as the court hears arguments over the order in Washington, May 15, 2025. The Supreme Court on Friday said it will hear arguments in a case that will determine if President Donald Trump can undo automatic citizenship for people born in the United States. Before Trump's order, there was little dispute that the U.S. Constitution's 14th Amendment, with rare exceptions, meant that children born in the country were automatically U.S. citizens, regardless of their parents' status. The Supreme Court, which is expected to rule next year, will determine if Trump's executive order complies with that amendment. Several federal district court judges have found the order violated the Constitution, and two federal circuit courts of appeals upheld injunctions blocking the order from taking effect.

The US supreme court agreed on Friday to decide the legality of Donald Trump’s order to heavily restrict the right to birthright citizenship in the United States. Trump then took to the supreme court to fight the injunctions. But it did not address the legality of the birthright citizenship ban itself. The lower court ruled that Trump’s policy violated the constitution’s 14th amendment and a federal law codifying birthright citizenship rights in a class-action lawsuit by parents and children whose citizenship is threatened by the directive. The 14th amendment has long been interpreted as guaranteeing citizenship for babies born in the United States.

Gehry, the most recognizable American architect since Frank Lloyd Wright, was one of the first to embrace the potential of computer design, and pioneered a distinctively exuberant style of bravura power, whimsical and arresting collisions of form. His most famous work remains the Guggenheim Museumin Bilbao, a fantastical, titanium-clad composition on the Nervión River which received international acclaim upon its opening in 1997, heralding a new era of emotive architecture. A US citizen who was seen on home security video being chased by masked federal agents outside New Orleans amid the Trump administration’s sweeping immigration crackdown says she surmises that she was pursued because “I’m brown”. “I have no idea why they targeted me,” Jacelynn Guzman told Guardian reporting partner WWL Louisiana on Thursday, a day after the video in question was taken and subsequently went viral online. The statement, provided Friday, said agents ultimately determined Guzman “was not the target” and then departed the area without making arrests. The Trump administration told WWL that it had deployed immigration agents across New Orleans-area communities including Marrero as part of an operation focused on violent offenders illegally residing in the US. Guzman’s stepfather told WWL that he ordered the agents who had been pursuing her off their property.

The Supreme Court rejected such a narrow definition in a landmark 1898 case. “Most obviously, it has impaired the United States’ territorial integrity by creating a strong incentive for illegal immigration,” Sauer said. Trump’s executive order had been due to come into effect on February 19, but it was halted after federal judges ruled against the administration in multiple lawsuits.
